Stainless Steel Electro Polish Wires
Stainless Steel Electro Polish Wires: Precision, Cleanliness, and Performance for Modern Industries
Stainless Steel Electro Polish Wires—commonly known as SS Electro Polish Wires or EPQ Wires —play a vital role in today’s advanced manufacturing sectors. These wires undergo an electro-polishing process, where an electric current removes surface impurities, resulting in a smooth, reflective finish with exceptional corrosion resistance and visual appeal.
Their superior cleanability, durability, and precision make them ideal for industries that demand strict hygiene and reliability, including food processing, pharmaceuticals, and healthcare. At the same time, their strength and flexibility ensure excellent performance in automotive, aerospace, and other high-stress applications.
As the demand for versatile, high-performance materials continues to rise, Stainless Steel Electro Polish Wires are setting new benchmarks for quality, functionality, and appearance across multiple industries
What is the electro-polishing process?
Electro-polishing is an electrochemical surface finishing process in which the stainless steel wire is submerged in an electrolytic bath and connected as the anode of an electric circuit. A controlled current selectively removes microscopic peaks from the wire surface, resulting in a smooth, ultra-clean finish that mechanical polishing cannot achieve.
The process delivers a surface roughness (Ra) typically below 0.4 µm — significantly lower than cold-drawn or mechanically finished wires. This ultra-low Ra value is why EPQ wire is the preferred specification in pharmaceutical cleanrooms, medical device manufacturing, and food-grade conveyor systems where bacterial adhesion and contamination risk must be minimised.
Unlike coatings or plating, electro-polishing removes material from the base metal itself, so the finish is permanent and cannot flake or delaminate under stress or heat.

1. What is EPQ wire?
EPQ stands for Electro Polish Quality. It refers to stainless steel wire produced with a surface finish specifically optimised for downstream electro-polishing, achieving a bright, mirror-like appearance and superior corrosion resistance compared to standard finishes.
2. What grades are available in electro polish wire?
Ambica Steels supplies SS EPQ wire in grades 304, 304L, 316, 316L, 321, and more. Custom grades and diameter ranges are available on request — contact us for a tailored quote.
3. Is electro polish wire safe for food processing?
Yes. The non-porous, ultra-clean electro-polished surface meets food contact safety standards and is widely used in conveyor belts, wire mesh, and mixing equipment in food and beverage processing facilities.
4. What diameter range is available for SS electro polish wire?
Standard diameters range from 0.10 mm to 6.00 mm with a tolerance of ±0.01 mm. Custom sizes outside this range can be manufactured on request.
5. What is the difference between electro polish wire and mechanically polished wire?
Electro-polishing removes material electrochemically from the wire's surface, achieving a smoother Ra finish (typically below 0.4 µm) than mechanical polishing. The resulting surface is also more corrosion-resistant as it depletes iron from the surface layer, enriching the chromium oxide passive film.
